Is homework really necessary? I mean we already have eight hours of school so why do we have to go home and do even more school work. I think we should only have work in school and no extra work for home.
Homework was originally created as a punishment for misbehaving and lazy students. I think it would be better to just give us additional work in school and not have us take it home as homework if we misbehave. It would help with students’ stress and mental health.
Homework messes up students’ sleep schedule. Imagine going home and you are really busy and then you remember that you have homework you have to do. You’re not gonna wanna do it but you’re gonna have to or you get a zero. So you stay up all night just to do your homework and only get 3 hours of sleep.
Homework is proven to cause significant stress, anxiety, and physical health issues like headaches and sleep loss. Limiting time on students activities they planned on doing. Leading to potential cheating and family conflict.
“I don’t think homework is necessary because we do the assignments at school and we don’t need assignments for home,” seventh grader William Viliamu said.
Constant pressure from doing homework could lead to exhaustion and disengagement from school. Homework is the primary source of stress, causing dread and pressure. It makes learning feel like a chore leading to frustration or discouragement.
“Yes homework does interfere with some stuff in my life,” seventh grade Cameron Ramos said. “For example when I wanna go out and play with my friends I have to do all my homework and sometimes it takes too long. I don’t even have time to play with them.”
Homework could cause conflict with family, friends, and teachers. Imagine promising your friends that you’re gonna go out and play with them after your homework but it takes too long. They might be disappointed that you didn’t go out and play with them.
So, this is why homework is pointless. It causes too much stress and problems. It lacks sleep time, family time, and even sleep deprivation.
