With the long-awaited break from school just around the corner, many students are already planning hangouts with friends and camps, excited to create new memories.
All students look forward to summer break throughout the year. It signifies warm weather, vacations, and fun activities. However, people’s experiences with these pastimes vary. Many cherish their summer holidays and hold memories that radiate the joy of summer, whether spent with friends, family, or on their own.
“During the summer, I mostly hang out with my friends at the pool or have sleepovers with them, which is really fun,” seventh grader Amara Nwankwo said.
Many students are also anxious about important sports events during the summer, such as nationals or regionals out of state. These students are very focused
and are working hard in practice.
“Because of our rankings and placements in tournaments, our season got extended, and we get to go to Junior Nationals for volleyball,” volleyball player Holly Gonzales said. “It’s in Florida this year, so I can’t wait to just hang out and go swimming in the pool.”
Summer brings fun vacations. Family vacations are a great opportunity to sightsee, go to the beach, and connect with family, especially with the good weather and overall feeling of relaxation.
“I’m going to the beach in a different country this summer for my birthday,” eighth grader Natalie Silvestre said. “I like going on vacations because you get to see more things you don’t often see at home, you know?”
However, others aren’t as fortunate. Some are grounded, like 7th grader Amara Nwankwo, who is facing consequences for her actions, although she feels she doesn’t deserve the punishment.
“I feel like I did nothing wrong, i think I should just enjoy my summer. I really wanna go to Philadelphia and travel, but I can’t because I’m grounded now,” Nwankwo said. “It’s very sad and depressing, sometimes I cry myself to sleep.”
Summer is usually eventful, good or bad. Between being grounded or experiencing new countries or cultures, summer is always a good time to switch things up and try out new things.
“This summer I’m trying out a volleyball camp and I’m really nervous because I’ve played volleyball.” seventh grader Hanna Lim said. “But I’m looking forward to it because I can make new friends.”
