Last year, the 49ers were Superbowl contenders, and this year, they didn’t even make it to the playoffs. How could this happen? Starting the season with plenty of star players on both sides of the ball, we have to dive in and see how they couldn’t even make the playoffs this year.
In 2023, the 49ers went 12-5, putting them in the playoffs. In the playoffs, they were favorites of many to win it all. This year they had a 6-11 season being in last place in their division, easily losing to teams like the cardinals, like they did in week 18. Safe to say that something has fallen apart from this team, but what is it exactly?
“We’ve been processing it all year. We’ve been trying to get there. You don’t really accept that you’re not going to get there until you get eliminated from the playoffs,” Head coach Kyle Shanahan said. “We’ve been processing it, we’re ready to finish this up, we tried to finish with a win. Didn’t get that done today, but I’m excited to get to this offseason and figure out how to not be in this situation again.”
The second thing that people think about when they hear of the 49ers, besides their bad record, is the amount of injuries that have devastated this team over this season. Star player Christian McCaffrey was only able to play 5 weeks through the whole season due to injury. Star players like Deebo Samuel, Nick Bosa, Brock Purdy, and many many more. This could very well be the reason.
“It’s tough when you’re not out there, I don’t want to say you don’t have a right, it’s just tough because you’re not contributing and so that’s one of the most frustrating things about it is you’re not helping,” McCaffrey said. “For me it’s just about being a good teammate where I can be and trying to come back as quick as possible and unfortunately sometimes those are the only things you can do when you’re hurt.”
The 49ers have been doing horribly this season and no one knows why. Most people think the coaches have something to do with the problem, and that their coaching skills are making the 49ers downfall come true. The 49ers staff has contributed to the downfall of the 49ers and the coaches have been calling bad plays and not getting their job done.
“I want to end this season out the right way and do better as a coach,“ Shanahan said. “I feel like I haven’t been helping my team so much as their coach, and I will try to push them through this tough time.”
The Coaches think that the reason they are doing bad is because people have been cutting up in the offseason and not showing up to the practices, Like Brandon Aiyuk, wh. Coach Kyle has spoken on this before and he thinks that his players aren’t putting in enough work during the offseason.
“I think our team needs to be putting in more effort and work in showing up to practices, and offseason practices. I feel like we could do way better if we learn our plays more and get our practices done with full effort.”
