Moana 2 was released on November 27, 2024. It’s a sequel to the very popular 2017 movie Moana. However, it has a more controversial opinion than the first Moana.
Moana 2 is a good movie, with an overall review of 3.5 stars. Although many reviews say the plot could be stronger and the songs could be better, the movie is also said to have a great representation of Polynesian culture. “I love Moana the culture has a presence in both movies, especially with the chants and music.” 7th-grade cheerleader, Isobel Shaver said.
Although, overall the audience has enjoyed the movie. Many people have been comparing it to the first Moana, and feel as though it’s not as good in comparison. Talking about how the songs and the movie as a whole aren’t quite the same. Seventh-grader Analysa Gutierrez talks about how she feels about comparing the first Moana to the second.
“I liked the second Moana, but the songs aren’t as good as the first movie. Though I wouldn’t call it bad, it was still a good movie.” Gutierrez said.
However, adding the new supporting characters and antagonist has had positive reactions. Some fans still favor the original over the newer characters or dislike the new characters’ personalities or designs.
Seventh-grader Amerie Garcia talks about how she prefers Maui over the other characters in Moana 1 and 2.
“I prefer Maui because I like his voice actor, and I think his character is funny and comforting,” Garcia said.
The new Moana 2 also has left many unanswered questions for fans and the audience. Many are hopeful for a third movie that will answer all the questions and speculations.KLMS volleyball player, Tiana Ricks talks about her ideas of the events in a third movie.
“If there was one I think it would continue with Nalo as the main antagonist and maybe go more in-depth into Matanagi’s character,” Ricks said.
Seventh-grader Hanna Lim talks about how she feels about some characters being unable to find their homes/islands because of the conflicts separating the islands
“I just feel bad for the little cocnuts, because at first it seemed like they were trying to hurt others, like Moana,” Lim said. “Although, they were just traveling the sea to find their home.”
