Christmas is one of the most celebrated holidays across the world, playing a big role during the season of winter. Though the holiday is favored by many, it is often argued whether or not it should be celebrated so early.
The holiday takes place on December 25th to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, but the Christmas season differs between people. Most usually identify it with the months of November and December, but some like to get in the festive spirit as soon as autumn hits. And though the early celebration keeps the holiday going for a longer period of time, many insist that it makes Christmas lose its spark.
“I guess I like celebrating Christmas at the start of November, but if it’s in October then that’s too early because it hasn’t even been Halloween yet,” 8th grader Czarina Gardner said. “It also ruins Christmas from how early they start it that it doesn’t even feel like Christmas anymore. I think Christmas music in November is fire though cause it gets me in the Christmas spirit.”
Christmas music is a huge part of getting into the Christmas spirit. Christmas is the holiday with the most well-known songs and they are always played during December. 8th grader Brennan Rowe believes it’s never too early for Christmas and is a fan of the music.
“I start celebrating November first,” Rowe said. “Christmas music is amazing. I love it. It’s like the best holiday music in my opinion.”
Some people, like Rowe, enjoy the music. Others, like 8th grader Maxine McKenzie, don’t believe it’s as good as everyone else makes it seem.
“I usually start Christmas in December,” McKenzie said. “I don’t really like Christmas music. I think it’s annoying and the people who play it in November hate Thanksgiving.”
While McKenzie doesn’t like the idea of Christmas during Thanksgiving, that’s exactly when 8th grader Brooklyn Pfluger begins.
“My family and I start celebrating around Thanksgiving break, where we put up Christmas decor,” Pfluger said. “I think it should be started early so people get in the holiday spirit. The wait makes
me feel very impatient, I always want Christmas here.”
8th grader Aiyana Alvarado doesn’t celebrate as early, but loves the holiday just as much. Every year she and her family drive around to look at Christmas lights.
“No, I don’t start Christmas early cause it’s not December yet,” Alvarado said. “I like listening to Christmas music in November, I just don’t celebrate it early. I feel impatient to wait though since Christmas is my favorite holiday.”
8th grader Tiffany Sims doesn’t usually start Christmas early but doesn’t mind people who do. Like most, she loves the holiday and hates having to wait for it.
“I get to see my family members and it gives me a good excuse to ask for something my parents wouldn’t usually get me,” Sims said. “I like seeing my family and I like seeing people excited for their gifts. It’s really just about getting to spend time with my family.”
