Anime is a Japanese style of animation used in film and television. Anime has been around since 1917, though it got its main boost in the 1960s. When something has been around for a long time, a group of people who like to talk about it forms. That group includes the person who introduced me to the whole thing—my dad.He introduced me to the anime I’ll Become a Villainess That Will Go Down in History. The anime is ongoing, but I’ve already decided it’s my absolute favorite thing EVER. So, I’m here to review the first three episodes!!
Episode 1: The Villainess and Working Out
Basic Summary:
In this episode, Alicia (the villainess), wakes up and realizes she’s been isekai’d into an otome game she played in her past life. Once she confirms she’s the villainess, Alicia decides she will become the GREATEST villainess ever. Alicia becomes incredibly strong by working out, studying, and practicing with the sword. Later on, she manages to impress the king with her interesting thoughts on diplomacy. In the final part of the episode, it is revealed the gold rose has bloomed, signaling that the saint has been born.
My thoughts:
I enjoyed this episode a lot, especially when Alicia started doing push-ups and other exercises. When I first watched this episode, it made me laugh. This is one of the best episodes and a great introduction to the anime. 9.5/10!
Episode 2: The Villainess and a Kiss
Basic Summary:
One day, angered by her father’s decision to forbid her from going to a swordsmanship exam, she makes her way to the village of the exiled. After witnessing the beating of a child, Alicia goes to her friend who lives in the town, Will, and tells him that she will do her best to help the people of the town. She gets a hold of some medical herbs and saves the boy who had been beaten. Later, Alicia finds hidden tomes in her family’s library and uses them to learn magic. Alicia overuses her magic, which weakens her. She collapses when speaking with the king, and the prince (Duke) carries her to bed. Now when I say that this man is a bit of a weirdo, I mean it. Duke “helps” her take her medicine by kissing Alicia. The episode ends after that crazy event.
My thoughts:
Getting more information about the people of this kingdom is cool, but I can’t help but focus on Duke kissing a sick lady. Think about it—the love interest… kissing the female lead while she is sick. I hear the police sirens already, because what was he thinking? This episode weirded me out at the end, but I found it enjoyable nonetheless. This one deserves a 7.5/10.
Episode 3: The Villainess and Trespassing
Basic Summary:
Alicia finally recovered from the illness caused by mana depletion. She thinks the prince’s kiss was just an act that had to be done. Once home, Alicia shows the nobles her magic, making them scared of her abilities. Hoping to learn more, she leaves for the village where Will explains that talented mages often cause problems for nobility and commoners. As they talk, Gill, the child she saved, eventually wakes up and admits he is scared of Alicia, but she makes him her retainer. After three years of strict training, Alicia joins the magic academy as Liz’s overseer as directed by the king.
My thoughts:
This episode was mostly just about learning more about magic and how the people of the kingdom feel about mages. It’s nice, but I’d rather watch an episode with more interesting lore. It’s just not what I would’ve wanted it to be. I’ll give it a 6/10.
So now you know my thoughts on this anime… and they’re mostly good. My favorite parts are the later episodes, but I didn’t think that skipping 5 episodes to get there would be great. Most anime end their seasons at 12 episodes, and the 12th episode of this anime came out on Dec 18, 2024. I hope there will be a second or continuation of the first season soon. Hopefully, this review will help you understand what this anime is like, and make you want to watch it!
