The Grammys are happening on February 2nd 2025, and the KLMS students will be sharing who they think will win the big four categories.
For reference, the Grammys are a yearly music event where artists can win awards for their remarkable achievements in music. To win awards, you have to be nominated in a music category. “Album of the Year”, “Best New Artist”, “Song of the Year”, & ”Record of the Year” are the main four categories at the Grammys.
”It’s definitely going to be a tough choice,” said 7th and 8th grade news publication teacher Garfield Harrison said. “But I would not be surprised if they gave album of the year to Taylor Swift.”
Album of the year is another exciting battle between who the student body & Staff want to win compared to who they know will win.
“Unfortunately I know Taylor Swift will win. I don’t want Taylor Swift to win.” 6-8th grade Coach Maria Bernal said “She’s got enough and other people deserve awards. I want Sabrina Carpenter to win.”
Most students and staff thought “The Tortured Poets Department” by Taylor Swift was going to win “Album Of The Year”. However, the majority of them prefer Sabrina Carpenter’s “Short n’ Sweet” or Billie Eilish’s “Hit Me Hard And Soft.”
”I want ‘Hit Me Hard And Soft’ to win,” 7th grader Tiana Ricks said, “but I feel like ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ is gonna win because like there’s just so many ‘Swifties’ and it’s gross.”
For “Best New Artist” there’s quite a bit of controversy about Sabrina Carpenter being nominated for it because she has been releasing popular music for quite some time now. Altogether, most people thought that she would win.
“I think Sabrina Carpenter is going to win, 7th grader Hanna Lim said. but I want Chappell Roan to win because I don’t really think that Sabrina Carpenter is a new artist.”
While some disagree with this decision, others support it. People in favor of her being nominated explain that she has achieved so much more success in a short amount of time even if she was successful before.
“Sabrina Carpenter will probably win,” Ricks said. “I feel like she’s just gained more popularity than the other artists.”
“Song Of The Year” is a very suspenseful category at the Grammys since so many amazing songs like “Die With A Smile” and “Birds Of A Feather” were nominated. However, “Please, Please, Please” by Sabrina Carpenter took the cake for who people want to win.
“I think that Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Please Please Please’ should win ‘Song Of The Year’.” 7th grader Kendall Shirley said. “I just love that song”
Finally, who do the students of Kelly Lane believe will win “Record Of The Year”? Well, the fan favorite, Sabrina Carpenter is expected to win “Record Of The Year” with her hit single “Espresso” according to the students of Kelly Lane.
“Sabrina Carpenter is going to win ‘Record Of The Year’.” 7th grader Cierra Lee said. “‘Espresso’ was really good and it was my favorite off of her album.”
