The Heisman award, created by the Downtown Athletic Club, recognizes the most valuable player in college football. They get selected based on three types of voters: sports journalists, previous heisman winners, and fans. They are judged by their stats, highlights, and how they helped their team during the regular season.
The most recent Heisman winner Travis Hunter who plays on the Colorado Buffaloes started on offense and defense as a wide receiver and cornerback gave a lot of thanks to his family and supporters upon accepting the award, and knows that it’s very special.
“It’s definitely special, you know, it means a lot to me and my family.” Hunter said. “I’m thankful for my mother, she took me out of a bad area, I was always getting in trouble. Now look where I am, it’s crazy; I want to thank Coach Prime, Shedeur, you guys changed my life fo rever. One simple phone call, Shedeur and look where I’m at! It’s crazy, bro. Crazy!”
Ashton Jeanty who is a RB from Boise State got 2nd place in the Heisman race. Many people thought he should have won the award and he did but he knows next season he is just going to work harder.
“ I really felt like I should’ve walked away with the award, but kudos to Travis for winning,” Jeanty said. “But yeah, it’s as simple as that. Work harder, go harder.”
A viewer of the heisman on the website Tik Tok who goes by the name of “Blackout” thinks that they both have talents in their own ways.
“Anyone who is mad doesn’t know football. Both were great and either could have won,” Blackout said. “They both have generational talents in their own way.”
A college football fan @cristian__412 commented on a post of Travis Hunter winning the Heisman award, stating why Hunter deserves it.
“Fellow Heisman winners like Reggie Bush, Ricky Williams, and Mark Ingram are all good, but you will never see a player like Hunter who plays on both sides of the ball as good as he does again,” @cristian__412 said.
A football fan on Tiktok with the username Johnathan (@beersnbros21) feels that Travis Hunter deserves it more and calls out everyone else who says Hunter doesnt deserve it.
“Anyone who says Hunter doesnt deserve the 2024 Heisman award is crazy,” Jonathan said. “He was top 5 in two different positions, you can’t beat that at this high of level.”
An Ashton Jeanty fan who goes by @free..rio on Tiktok strongly feels like Jeanty should’ve won and provided stats and information to back up his opinion.
“Jeanty had the 4th most running yards in CFB history and 6th rushing TD’s in College history, he is a top 5 college RB of all time and Travis Hunter who had 6th most receiving yards in the league is heisman,” the user said. Jeanty should’ve won in my opinion.”
