Since the release of A Minecraft Movie, theaters have been a place of unintended chaos, with live chickens being brought into screenings and popcorn and drinks being thrown at random scenes.
The Minecraft movie has been a massive success since its early April release. Thousands of people have flooded the theater to witness the film, but among the audience, there have been few been disturbing screenings by throwing popcorn and drinks. Another result of the success of A Minecraft Movie is the rise in people going back into a Minecraft phase, as I have bought and started playing the game since I watched it. As I talked to more and more people about it and saw on the internet that people said the movie was bad but enjoyable, and is becoming apparent what film goers want. It is obvious that A Minecraft Movie has made a staple in the film industry, but also in film culture itself.
“I believe the film entitled “A Minecraft Movie” had such a big impact on the film industry as although not a good movie, it was very fun. You could tell all the actors were having fun, and it proves that not every movie has to be a cinematic masterpiece with deep writing and emotional plots to be a good movie,” Trenton Shuler said.” “Alongside that, I think it has characterized the new age of movies. Instead of comic book movies, we are turning to the age of video game movies.”
When the first teaser trailer and even before that announcement of Steve’s casting for A Minecraft Movie, the community was pretty split on whether the Minecraft Movie was going to be a success or even make its money back. Still, on the opposing side, people believed that because of the huge brand of Minecraft, it was sure to be a success. They seemed to be right, because as of April 25, A Minecraft Movie has made 729 million dollars on a budget of 150 million dollars according to Box Office Mojo.
“People originally thought “A Minecraft Movie” would be a failure, as its teaser trailer showed off something which appeared to be a lot different than the actual movie. It demonstrated heavy CGI, the worst jokes of the movie, no fun, and no character,” Shuler said. “As more material of the movie was released to the public, it showed society what the movie was supposed to be. Which is a fun, non-serious, wacky movie which seemed to be intentionally bad just so that it was a good watch. As people saw more of the characters, especially Jack Black as “Steve”, it gradually got more people excited for the movie and got more to go to the theaters to watch “A Minecraft Movie”, having a fun time.”
With the massive success of A Minecraft Movie, talk among studio executives has been swirling around the internet on a rumor Minecraft Movie 2, but as of the time I’m writing this, there has been no official green light for A Minecraft Movie 2.
“Based on the success of the first theatrical masterpiece known as A Minecraft Movie, there will be a sequel to this film.” seventh grader Luke Russell said. “I feel like the studio that made A Minecraft movie will likely take advantage of its success because, as of this interview, A Minecraft Movie almost has a billion dollars worldwide., This could be the start of A Minecraft Movie franchise or even an interconnected film universe.”
A possibility of the major success of A Minecraft Movie could be that some of the acting of one of the main characters, Steve, portrayed by Jack Black, does many things in the movie but stands out highlighted in the film trailer where he names a bunch of stuff in minecraft like Chicken Jockey, Flint and Steel, etc. This was one of the things that took social media by storm.
“I believe that in the theatrical masterpiece known as A Minecraft Movie, people get excited when the actor, Jack Black, points out things from the game, commonly known as Minecraft, quotes such as Chicken Jockey, The Nether. Flint and Steel, etc,” Russell said. “I believe they get excited because of the comedic way Jack Black says these lines. I think that Jack Black knew the movie would be bad or well-received, so he decided to put in his all when acting in the movie. “
This also leads us to how teens’ behavior have been in these screenings. Popcorn, drinks, and candy have been thrown in the air due to some of these Jack Black quotes. Severe incidents have been when a live chicken was thrown into the air as somebody was on their friend’s back, and police have been called to showings.
“I believe trashing a theater is never a good thing, even though it’s closed. I also wonder what the point of trashing it is.” Aman Korepu said. “A theater is a place to see movies and enjoy them, and now you’re just making it worse for the minimum-wage janitors.”
The result of teens trashing movie theaters has also caused an increasing amount of stress and effort on the part of movie theater workers who have to clean the spilled drinks and popcorn. Some reports by Variety said that cops have been called to screenings of A Minecraft Movie with rowdy behavior due to a Chicken Jockey scene.
“I believe the incidents concerning the theaters were mostly from chicken jockeys, so I doubt anyone would get fired, but it does mean they have to prepare when stuff like this happens.T hey have the cops ready to call and the times when they say chicken jockey, so other than the janitors, not a hug effect.” seventh grader Aman Korepu said. “If people complain about when these incidents happen and leave bad rreviewss then management will be in trouble. Overall, I wouldn’t say there is a big effect on the worker’s job.”
