The new KLMS girls soccer teams give an insight to what it’s like to be a soccer player, their goals and aspirations for this season, and what they do to prepare before a game.
The 2025 Kelly Lane Middle School girls soccer team is committed and pushing to their fullest on the field. These girls have developed brand new strong friendships within just a few weeks. Even when they get on each other’s nerves, they still work great together, amazing as a team. Every player brings something new to the table. They all have different ways of preparing for games and different goals for the season. However, one thing they all have in common, is that they are all ready for this new and exciting season.
“My favorite part of being on the soccer team so far is just getting to know all the girls and like their clubs and stuff,” A-team player Victoria Escobar said. ”It’s just really cool how everyone plays for different clubs and has different skills.”
Soccer has brought these incredible girls together, creating long lasting friendships with each other.
“I used to not be friends with that many eighth graders, but now I’m friends with a lot of eighth graders,” B-team player Hannah Lim said. “My favorite part about soccer so far is probably the fact that I’ve met a lot of people through soccer.”
In order to get ready for games, many players have fun routines or items to bring good luck for the games.
“Sometimes we write Bible verses on our legs,” A-team player Madison Russell said. “We do it before games as kind of like a good luck charm.”
Although some girls are extremely nervous before games and get in their head, most start to feel excited when they begin warming up.
“On game days I start out nervous,” Escobar said. “When we start warming up I start getting excited because I know we’re going to do good.”
Teamwork is essential for all team sports, but especially in soccer. That’s why these players try to help and uplift each other.
“We always go into a team circle and talk about things we need to work on,” A-team player Ava Griffin said. “We pray and like when we are about to break out we always kind of start yelling and clapping and being super loud.”
Goals are so important when it comes to being an athlete because it gives you determination and helps you focus on what you want to improve on. This is why every player has a goal they want to reach this season.
“I just want to get better and prove myself and stay in the starting line up,” Griffin said. “I really just kind of need to try my best.”
