I’m reviewing Drip or Drown 2 album by Gunna. It is the sequel to Drip or Drown with producer Wheezy. The album has features including Lil Baby, Young Thug, and Playboi Carti.
1. Wit it
It starts out with an echoing sound and flows into a nice little beat. I like the flow of the song and how the beat goes in and out. In the end, the beat and flow fade out instead of just stopping. I can’t really tell what he’s saying, but it sounds like he is talking about working for what you have and staying strong. I feel like I would play this song to get pumped up for a baseball game or really any sport. I would rate this song a solid 7/10.
2. Outstanding
This song starts out with some piano into a more deeper beat than the last song. It has more of a faster flow that sounds really good. His voice is definitely easier to understand compared to the last song. I would play this song if i’m working out or if someone is wanting me to play some music. I really like this song. I would rate it a 8.5/10.
3. One call
In the beginning it has a sound that kind of reminds me of a xylophone or a marimba, into a beat drop. It is a very fast paced song that sometimes slows down, The beat and rhythm is similar to the first song “Wit It”. I think this song is about him flexing his money. I think I would like this more if he would just stop mumbling and trying to speak so fast. It is not a bad song, another hype up song which is nice. I would give this song a 7.5/10 since it’s kind of repetitive.
4. Cash War
This song opens up with a beat dropping into a nice rhythm. I like this song better than all the other songs right off the bat because it’s the first song that has a somewhat different rhythm from the others. This song is about being rich enough to buy alot of cars and flex. I think I would use this song as a walk up song because I feel like it would get me and my team pumped up and me ready for my at bat. I am giving this song a 9/10.
5. Richard Millie Plain
Richard Millie Plain starts with more piano then going into another beat drop. I like the rhythm of this song because it is not to fast or slow and the vocals match up perfectly with it. I really have no idea what this song is about but what I get out of it is committing a crime and fleeing. His vocals are a little slower in this song than the other ones. I feel like I wouldn’t listen to this song if I just wanted to listen to some music. It’s not the best and it’s not the worst so I’ll give this song a 6.5/10.
6. Yao Ming
Now this song really sounds different based on how the song starts off piano that really sounds like it’s in the back of your head. I also heard symbols instead of a bass beat drop. I think this song is about him having alot of money and saying that his money is tall like Yao Ming, a basketball player who plays for the Houston Rockets. This song is very chill and calm, I would rate this song a 8.5/10.
7. Idk Why
Starting off the beat is really deep and I kind of like it. If Drake and The Weekend made a song this is what it would sound like. This song is a very slow flowing and nice sounding song. What I get from this song is that is trying to make an illegal deal but they keep charging more money. I dont really like the message of the song but I like the way it sounds so l’Il rate it a 8/10.
8. Derek Fisher Featuring Lil Baby
This is Gunna’s first feature of the album. The beat is very unique in the stary which kinda is what I would imagine a UFO to sound like. I like the way the artist goes back and forth and shares the song. Lil Baby adds great parts to this song and just overall makes it sound better. I don’t have a good understanding of what it’s about but it sounds cool. I’m going to give this song a 7.5/10.
9. Baby Birkin
Another unique start with what sounds like a baby toy piano. This song is just him flexing his money and what he has. This song would go on my pre game playlist since it just gets me locked in and hyped. There’s really not much to say about his song but I’ll rate it a 9/10
10. Speed It Up
The beat in this song sounds like they took it out of a video game. The lyrics are very spread apart and he pauses every time. This song gets very boring and repetitive. It is probably my least favorite song on this album. This song gets a rating of 4/10.
11. 3 Headed Snake Featuring Young Thug
It starts out with a very sneaky sounding beat into a surprising beat drop. The flow and sound of this song is very nice. This is another song I don’t really understand but I like the way it sounds. It sound like a Future song by the flow. I definitely would add this to one of my playlist. This song gets a 9/10.
12. Big Shot
When I really focus on the beat of this song it gives me a picture in my head of someone running or fighting a monster. I think this song is just about him being really cocky. I really don’t have anything to say about this song so I’ll give it a 8/10.
13. On A Mountain
This song surprised me it starts of with something that sounds like some sort of guitar. I like this song. It sounds like what you would hear when you walk into a stadium during a team warm up. It gets me very pumped up and makes me feel ready. I get out of this song a feeling of really just being locked in. I like this song. I’ll give it a 9.5/10.
14. Out The Hood
This songs starts off with a really cool echo in the background which fades out. This song means getting out of a bad area but keeping bad habits, and still having bad people around you. It’s not a bad sounding song but it’s just not my style so I’ll give it a 7/10.
15. Who You Foolin
I could tell I had definitely heard this song before just because how it starts out with an oriental sounding beat. I think this song is getting out of a bad neighborhood, becoming successful, and people try to play him. I feel like this song is pretty over played but it’s not a bad song. It definitely gets a 9/10.
Overall
There is not a lot of bad things about this album other than it being very repetitive with the beats, rhythms, what the song is about, and him mumbling in basically every song. This album is very good though and is perfect if you need some music to pump you up and get you ready for everything. I would definitely recommend this album to people who like chill rap. The final rating for this album is a 7.8/10.
