Get ready, horror fans! The “Scream” franchise is set to drop its latest installment, “Scream VII,” in 2026, and the excitement is building. This series has been a staple of the horror genre since it first hit the screen in 1996, and with a fresh movie on the way, there’s a lot to look forward to!
“Scream” changed the game for slasher films, bringing us a mix of genuine scares and witty commentary on horror tropes that we all know too well.
“I’m excited for it to be out. There are some set photos on Twitter,” sixth grader Marco Diaz said. “I think Sydney might be killed first in Scream VII because this might be the last movie they are making, and something big has to happen for a finale.”
When it comes to horror movies, predictions are half the fun! Take Gale Weathers possibly being the killer or Anika Ladder’s upsetting death, fans love throwing around theories to guess what’s going to happen next. It really amps up the excitement to try and piece together all the clues along the way. Every twist can either confirm your thoughts or throw you for a loop, making it even more engaging. As the plot thickens, the tension just keeps ramping up, and you start wondering who’s really trustworthy and what secret motives are lurking around. It’s that unpredictability that hooks you in!
The “Scream” franchise has become a defining force in the horror genre, known for its clever blend of suspense and self-awareness. From the chilling opening scene of the original film in 1996, which set the tone for a series that both honors and critiques slasher tropes, to the latest installments that continue to evolve the narrative, each film offers a unique take on the horror experience.
“My favorite is probably the first one because it’s the OG and I like how the storyline of the first one sets the mood for the others,” eighth grader Rowan Shramm said. “I also like the first one a lot more because Billy Loomis is in it and I think he and Sidney would have been an awesome couple if he wasn’t a psychopath.”
There’s nothing like catching a horror movie in the theater. When the lights dim and the previews roll, you can just feel the excitement buzzing in the air—everyone’s in on the thrill, ready to dive into a chilling adventure together. Sharing those gasps, screams, and nervous laughs with the crowd makes the whole experience so much more intense. Every jump scare hits harder, and the eerie sounds echo in a way that just can’t be matched at home. Plus, those collective reactions create a vibe that’s totally unique. Whether it’s a highly anticipated new release or a beloved classic, there’s something special about enjoying that adrenaline rush of fear with others in the dark. It’s a communal experience that adds an extra layer of fun to the thrill of the unknown!
“I might bring my friend with me to go see it because she really likes the Scream movies,” seventh grader Kelsey McRae said. “But before I go see it, I have to watch the other five movies to be all caught up.”
