We all know some years are great and others… not so much, so how was 2024 according to the Kelly Lane Middle School student body?
A lot happened in 2024 – The Summer Olympics, The Solar eclipse, the election, hurricane Helene & hurricane Milton, The Eras Tour, and more. Those are just a few examples, but the KLMS student body has their own wild stories about school & home experiences that are funny, miserable, good, & bad.
“When I think of 2024 I think of a difficult year I guess,” sixth grader Fahima Boumba said. “It was really different coming into middle school.”
Middle school is a huge adjustment for sixth graders, but for eighth graders it’s all about making their final year count, with fun dances, sleepovers, school events, and

funny stories.
“During our second performance of the Joe’s Cafe dance she [Kerri Carpenter] & I were partners and she fell and literally ended up breaking off a piece of her leg and I didnt know what was happening” eighth grader Logan Johst said with laughter. “She was just laying there on the stage and so I stood over Kerri to make sure they didn’t see her with my arms crossed for like the rest of the dance”
While some had funny memories to look back on, others had a very rough time, like losing family members, pets, and going through heartbreak.
“My great aunt died and my guinea pig died and my uncle had a stroke in the same week” seventh grader Evie Siler said. “I knew them all really well and I was really sad”
Losing family or pets is always extremely hard, but sometimes good things happen that can sometimes outshine the bad.
“When I got my dogs was definitely my favorite moment,” Siler said. “They’re really fun and I care for them-they’re my baby’s”
Family played a big role for many students this year, and you should appreciate them as they sometimes matter most in your life.”
“It was a good year for me,” sixth grader Turner Moebs said. “ I got to spend a lot of time with my family and I got to visit my grandparents in Michigan three times.”

Some students had memorable moments with their families or pets, others were more challenging or even a little rebellious.
“I got ISS because I hit somebody in the back of the head,” Boumba said. “My mom was really upset and took my phone for 2 weeks”
2024 was a very bumpy ride, but the destinations that it brought us was definently worth it.
“I honestly think of a roller coaster because that year was just full of so much.” Josht said. “It was just so crazy and productive and it had so many great parts but so many bad parts.”
